Nuno Osorio
Nuno S. Osório is a distinguished professor and researcher at the University of Minho, where he serves as an Assistant Investigator at the Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS), and as a professor at the School of Medicine. His research primarily focuses on the genetic diversity and evolution of microorganisms, particularly human pathogens, and their implications for disease control. He has a keen interest in understanding the molecular interactions between host and pathogen that contribute to human diseases.
Professor Osório leads a multidisciplinary team in several significant projects, including studies on the computational molecular biology and evolution of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex, pathogen diversity and immunoinformatics in tuberculosis, and the role of genetic variants in the fitness of Mycobacterium tuberculosis under selection pressure. His work also extends to investigating the importance of Plasmodium falciparum ABC transporters in antimalarial drug resistance.
In addition to his research, Nuno S. Osório is a committed educator and science communicator, effectively bridging the gap between complex scientific concepts and public understanding. His contributions to the field have been recognized in numerous high-impact publications, shedding light on critical aspects of infectious diseases and their treatment strategies.
